Grew up on the NES, Nintendo 64 and GameCube, with Ocarina of Time as a favorite. Plays after work and on weekends. Definitely not a pro. Plays on a retail Switch 2, mostly in handheld, and loves docked mode to make a game feel bigger.

What 4ru4k looks for in a game
- How a game looks and sounds. I'd rather finish a lovely small game than give up on a huge one.
- Whether it respects an evening: short sessions, and nothing to relearn after a week away.
- How it feels on the TV and in handheld, and which one I'd pick.
- Honest effort: how much I have to learn and remember, not only how hard it is.

A good game that has aged, with great characters
A film-noir adventure in the Land of the Dead with great characters and a live-recorded soundtrack. It feels old and leaves you guessing.

A serious flight simulator done well: real airports, good planes, accurate physics and a short learning curve. No ATC and a flat map, but the best on Switch.

A short black-and-white puzzle game with no story, no music and great sound. The puzzles are fun, and you can play one or ten in an evening.

Soccer on Switch 2 that lagged, glitched and cost me matches. Laggy controls, missing leagues and a dull player mode. Not one to chill with.

Sky islands, a huge underground and a building system that lets you make anything. Incredible, but it asks more of your brain than Breath of the Wild did.

A card game that looks like a smoky old arcade cabinet and plays like a slot machine for your brain. Five minutes or an hour, both are fine.

Hitchhike across a made-up country in 1996, meet people you grow to care about, and let a retrowave soundtrack set the mood. Almost no effort, all feeling.

Dive in the morning, run a sushi bar at night. Gorgeous, funny, endlessly chill, with a jungle DLC that deserves its own review.

A cozy island that keeps your mind off the day. I loved the first hour. On my own, it became repetitive and farm-y, and I let it go.
