The small print, in plain words

Cookie policy

What this site stores in your browser, why, and how to change your mind. Last updated 15 October 2026.

The short version

OverTime Gamer has no ads and no social media trackers. The only analytics tool is Google Analytics, and it stays completely off until you switch it on. Some blog posts include a YouTube video, but it is only loaded when you press play: until then nothing is requested from YouTube. Once you press play, YouTube (Google) loads the video and may store its own cookies or similar data, under its own policy. Press play only if you are happy with that; you can always watch the same video on YouTube instead. Apart from that, the only things it ever saves in your browser are your own choices (like the loadout you picked on the Tonight page), a note of your cookie choice and, only if you allow it, the Google Analytics cookies. You can say no to everything except that note, and the site works exactly the same, it just forgets you between visits.

1. Who is behind this site

The person responsible for this site (the data controller) is:

2. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files a website saves on your device. Websites can also use similar things, such as your browser's local storage, to remember information. When this policy says "cookies" it means both. This site uses local storage for your choices and, only if you allow Analytics, two cookies set by Google Analytics. Both work the same way for legal purposes and are covered by the same rules.

3. What this site stores

NameTypeWhat it doesCategoryHow long
ot:consentBrowser storage (localStorage)Remembers your cookie choices, the date you made them and the policy version, so I don't ask you on every page.Essential12 months, then I ask again
ot:quickBrowser storage (localStorage)Remembers the time and energy you picked in the quick picker on the home page.Preferences (only if you allow them)Until you clear it or withdraw consent
ot:tonightBrowser storage (localStorage)Remembers your last loadout on the Tonight page: time, energy, players and any fine-tuning.Preferences (only if you allow them)Until you clear it or withdraw consent
_gaCookie (Google Analytics)Tells Google Analytics that repeat visits come from the same browser, so visits can be counted without knowing who you are.Analytics (only if you allow them)2 years
_ga_HFKE1BX16ECookie (Google Analytics)Keeps track of the current visit (session) for the statistics.Analytics (only if you allow them)2 years

The first three are set by this site and never shared with anybody else. The two Google Analytics cookies only exist if you switch Analytics on. When they do, data about your visit is sent to Google, as explained in the next section.

4. The categories, and the choice you have

  • Essential. Needed to remember your cookie choice. Always on, because without it the site would have to ask you again on every page. This is exempt from consent under the ePrivacy Directive.
  • Preferences. Off until you switch them on. They remember the options you picked in the pickers (time, energy, players). Saying no costs you nothing but convenience. Legal basis: your consent, article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.
  • Analytics. Off until you switch it on. It uses Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from (city level, worked out from the IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), which device and browser they use and where they came from. I use it to see what is worth writing next. Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, and the data is not used for advertising by me. Individual visit data is kept for 2 months, the shortest period the tool offers, and summary reports are kept longer. Google may process the data outside the EU under standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: your consent, article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive. Nothing is requested from Google until you switch it on.

There are no advertising or social media tracking categories because I don't use any. If that ever changes I will list them here, change the policy version and ask you again before anything is switched on.

5. Links to other sites

Some pages link to official pages or other sites. When you click one you leave this site, and that site may set its own cookies under its own policy, which I don't control.

6. Fonts and other resources

The fonts, images and scripts are all served from this site. Nothing is loaded from Google, social networks or any other third-party server just by reading a page. There are two exceptions, and both only happen when you choose: a video on a blog post is loaded from YouTube after you press play, and Google Analytics is loaded from Google after you switch Analytics on. In both cases your IP address reaches Google.

7. Server logs

The hosting provider (Netlify) receives your IP address and technical data (browser, page requested, date) when you load a page. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. I don't use these logs to identify you. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running a secure website, article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.

8. How to change your mind

  • Press here or in the footer of any page. You can switch Preferences and Analytics on or off at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving consent. Switching Analytics off stops anything being sent to Google and deletes its cookies.
  • Or delete the site's data in your browser (usually under Settings, Privacy, Site data). Doing that also erases your choice, so the banner will come back.

I keep a record of your choice (what you chose, when, and which version of this policy) in your own browser. I don't keep a copy on a server.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent whenever you like. To use any of them, write to qenviesearch@gmail.com. If you think your rights haven't been respected you can complain to the data protection authority of your country.

10. Changes to this policy

If I add or change anything that is stored on your device, I'll update this page and its date, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
