R.E.P.O. is coming to Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo announced it in its October 28 Indie World without a date or a price. I haven't played it. I know it from funny clips on Instagram, and I want to try it.
What R.E.P.O. is
R.E.P.O. is an online co-op horror game from semiwork. You and up to five friends play robots that work for a mysterious computer intelligence, sent into the haunted remains of a lost humanity to find valuable objects and carry them out. A physics-based grabbing tool does the carrying. Pianos are heavy, ceramics are fragile, and a careless move can turn a good run into a disaster. The monsters follow the same physics.
Proximity voice chat means your friends only hear you when you're close to them. The levels are procedurally generated, and the money you bring back buys upgrades and weapons.
On PC the game has been in Steam Early Access since February 26, 2025, and Steam shows its reviews as overwhelmingly positive.
Early Access, and why it matters on Switch 2
On PC, R.E.P.O. has been in Steam Early Access since February 26, 2025. Nintendo's announcement doesn't say whether the Switch 2 version will be the finished game or still in Early Access. That is the biggest open question, because it decides how much content you get on day one and how much will change after. Until Nintendo or semiwork says more, I'd treat 2027 as a target that could still move.
Why I want to play it
I want to play it because it looks like a lot of fun, especially with friends. The clip that sold me is probably one you've seen too. A guy is playing, his dog starts barking in the background, his character makes noise because of it, and something kills him. His friends are laughing and trying to hold the laugh in. I'd love to live scenes like that, with people I'm playing with. I've only seen the game in clips, and they were funny.
Would it fit an evening after work?
It's online co-op, so it needs friends who are on at the same time, and that is a real scheduling job on a weeknight. I'd play with whoever I can find who would enjoy it with me, and I'd try to get some people from the gamer group at my work.
The voice chat is part of the game, which makes it a talking evening and not a quiet one. Nintendo hasn't said how voice chat will work on Switch 2. On PC it can be played solo, but there's no AI teammate.
I'm not a horror fan. R.E.P.O. looks like it's on the light side of things, and I'll definitely play it with friends. It looks like a good weeknight game, and we'll see once it's out.
What Nintendo hasn't said yet
| Question | What is known |
|---|---|
| Release date | 2027, no exact day |
| Price | Not announced |
| Players on Switch 2 | Not announced |
| Cross-play with PC | One outlet says yes, Nintendo's announcement doesn't mention it |
| Voice chat on Switch 2 | Not announced |
| Finished game or Early Access | Not announced |
My take
I'm excited, and I want to play it with friends and live those moments. Two things could make me drop it: gameplay that gets too complicated, or a game that turns repetitive after a few evenings. I can't say either way until I've played it, and I haven't. So there is no score yet.
What I'll check when more is announced
When Nintendo shares more, I'll look at the price in euros first (check the eShop price in your country), then the player count, then voice chat, then whether cross-play with PC is confirmed. I'll update this post then and say what changed.
